Inspired by Men’s Fashion

It’s not fall yet, but I’m inspired by all the beautiful textures and patterns of men’s fashion for the home. Tweed, hounds tooth, paisley, suede, leather and silk make me feel comfortable. Oh, don’t get me wrong, I love pretty. However, there is something about the look of men’s wear that brings old world charm to home interiors. Ralph Lauren’s interiors are some of my favorite.  They are warm and relaxing.  What’s inspiring you this time of year?

Out and About: 2012 NYIGF

My visit to the New York International Gift Fair was like Christmas in August.   The isles were full of art, textiles, furniture, jewelry and fun finds.  I love discovering new products and talking to the owners about how they got started in the business and their inspiration for their products.  What’s popular: color, metallic, organic fabrics.  A few favorite from the Gift Show aisles.

Thrifting Tips

Autum is approaching.  Soon the weather will be cool and the kids back in school.  It is the time of year people sort through summer and fall items and set up yard sales.  If  you enjoy the thrill of finding hidden treasure, DIY projects, and re-purposing,  here a few tips before you head out the door.

  1. Pack a large bag and measuring tape, bring newspaper to wrap delicate items, and cash (lots of small bills).
  2. If you’re looking for a great selection, arrive early — an hour before.  Arriving late will give you less of a selection, but you might get a better price. Prices often fall  later in the day.
  3.  Bring hand wipes for your hands.  You are on a hunt.  Things are sometimes dusty.
  4. Don’t haggle when you know it’s a fair price.

If you need help  finding tag sales, get an App. like  Tag Sell It.  You may want to do some on-line thrifting.  Apps like OfferUp, help buyers looking to land a deal in the Seattle area.  OfferUp is an iPhone mobile app that allows sellers to simply snap a picture, post it up for sale in under one minute and items are immediately posted on the OfferUp mobile marketplace and website without anyone ever needing to connect to a computer.  Sellers can chose to post the listing on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest or just send out an email to a few people or groups.  Happy hunting.

Lulu DK Eden Collection

On a recent trip to the D&D Building, I fell in love with the LuLu DK  Eden Collection at  Donghia.  My  heart skipped a beat when I saw this playful beautiful fabric, Dancers in Kelly Green.  I  love the birds and the color green;  add teal and gold to the mix and it’s perfection.

LuLu deKwiatkowski’s Eden Collection features twelve designs: six hand-drawn prints, three woven outdoors, and three solid linens.   There are large and small-scale patters in bold color and the use of metallics.    The collection is playful.  It was inspired by Lulu’s boys, nature and California living.

Lulu is featured in the August issue of Town & Country.

Enjoy Marisa Marcantonio’s interview with Lulu for the The Editor at Large, here.

Color Report Survey: House Beautiful

House Beautiful Magazine surveyed readers, designers and bloggers on paint color.   The results are published in September’s issue of House Beautiful.  Yesterday,  I shared that blue out beat the other paint colors.   Green came in second.  Green is the color of nature and health.  It is associated with  growth, nature, money,  fertility and safety. Green is easy on the eye and is relaxing.

The Color Report: House Beautiful

Do you know what America’s favorite paint color is?  The votes are in and the results are published in the September issue of House Beautiful.

BLUE  is America’s favorite paint color.   Blue is a cool calming color that shows creativity and  intelligence.   It can be strong or light and friendly. Almost everyone likes some shade of the color blue.    Strong blues will stimulate clear thought and lighter, soft blues will calm the mind and aid concentration.  Blue is very popular and is easy to incorporate into your home with paint, furniture, lighting, fabrics and decorative accessories.
