Monday Quote 4/14/14

Happy Monday!  Hope you had a lovely weekend. Happy to see daffodils in the backyard.  A burst of bright, sunny yellow makes me smile.  During the next few days, I’ll be watching the yard and enjoying the change from the flowering trees. Like the garden, life is a series of changes.

High Point Market 2014

Spring market at High Point was amazing.  This was my second visit to High Point Market.  I went to a few of my favorite showrooms and discovered some new favorites.  There was an abundance of  chinoiserie and brass in many of the exhibits.  Bamboo was also a big hit: bamboo headboards, upholstered chairs with bamboo legs detail.   Side tables and accessories were natured inspired with brass finishes.

C R Laine Showroom – Chesterfield sofa is here to stay. More options on upholstered swivel chairs and rockers.  Not your grandpa’s chair anymore, but stylish upholstery with great lines and dual function in updated fabrics.

Enchantment collection –  I sat on many of their upholstered pieces and I have to say each was comfortable and well proportioned.  Every pieces in the showroom was fabulous!

Out and About: High Point Market

Hello, again.  I’m back from High Point Market.  The first day at market was rainy and cool, but there were places to go and people to meet.  The great thing about market is that they have complementary shuttles to the hundreds of showrooms, so the rain didn’t bother me.

Happy to be back home to family on a sunny, spring day.  Today, I’m playing catch up to all the little things that are left undone when mom is away.  For example, unloading the dishwasher before I can upload my pictures to share with you from High Point Market. Come back tomorrow for my fabulous finds at High Point Market.

What to Wear: Spring High Point Market

Next week,  I’m heading to High Point Market,  the home furnishings capital of the world.  I’m so excited to see  friends, find new products and attend some of the design sessions.  I’ll be walking from showroom to showroom covering thousands of products.  Comfort is important to having a successful day at market.  I’ve put together a few pieces to wear to High Point Market that are spring inspired and comfortable.

Country House

Over the weekend I took a ride to my previous hometown, Warwick, NY.  It’s a beautiful small town about 1 1/2 hours from New York City.  I’ve had a love affair with the Town of Warwick for over 18 years.  I raised my three children there.  We moved from Warwick for sunny days in Tampa a few years back, then moved to Princeton, NJ, where we currently reside.  On Sunday, we went back to our hometown and toured a beautiful property, which got me dreaming of country living, again.

I’m not moving; but I love pinning images of how I would put my touch to the house I toured.  This is my idea of country living now that my children are older.  I like painting everything all white and see how things develop while living in the house.  This allows me to see how I live in the space and how light moves throughout the house.

Green is my first choice for a study.

I love red, too.

I’m head over heals for yellow somewhere in my country house.

I’m thinking of Monticello – Thomas Jefferson’s Home re-painted by Ralph Lauren English Interiors Paint called Monticello Yellow.

My country kitchen would incorporate some of these classic elements: a French stove, white subway tiles and wood floors.

love the backsplash and dark/antique looking stove

Want to see more of my country home ideas?  See more here.  If you are thinking of country living, or just want a quick getaway to the country side,  the Town of Warwick, NY is a lovely place to visit.   It is no surprise that it was included in the list of The Best Weekend Getaways In America.

InstaCraft Book Review

How do I distress from life?  I get crafty, instead of crabby.  Starting with a small project is key.  I came across a great book, InstaCraft,  by Alison Caporimo.  It has 50 fun and simple projects for adorable gifts and décor.  The brick bookends is one of my favorite projects.

Photo: Meera Lee Patel

Don’t you just love these bookends to group your favorite reads together?  Customize the spine with the title of  a favorite book for a personalized gift.   Follow these simple instructions to make your own.

MATERIALS
Two bricks
Acrylic paints
Fine-point paint pens

DIRECTIONS
Wash bricks with water
Once dry, coat one edge with acrylic paint
Use paint pen to write out book title
Let dry

TIP
The more battered the brick, the better.  Nicks and bumps supply a great textured canvas for the paint and make for vintage-looking spines.

Another InstaCraft  project is creating designer-inspired French jewelry with an old locket and two coats of colorful nail polish.  I find crafting to be a great way to slow things down and spend time with my teen daughter making something together, instead of driving to the mall.

Whether you’re a crafting pro or newbie, InstaCraft shows you how to turn 5 minutes, a few simple household items, and your own creativity into stylish, personalized trinkets and accessories.  Happy crafting!

A Party Affair

Happy Friday!  It feels like every time I go on vacation, it takes a week for things to get back on track.  Sorry for the lack of post.   It’s after 5 ‘o clock, but I couldn’t end the week with just one post. This late in the day my mind is thinking weekend, spring, and pretty tabletops ideas for entertaining.

Inspired by the color of the year (Radiant Orchid) and LuluDK fabric (Dreamers in Plum),  come along while I daydream of a party affair and the little details that add up to make a fun tabletop.

I could picture the party in my mind.  Bright green moss in the birdcage with cascading flowers and ivy, gold and purple votive with tea light candles glimmer the faces around the table, and low jazz music playing in the background.  Now, I really feel like a cocktail.  Hope you have a lovely weekend.  Thanks for stopping by.

Happy Spring

We arrived yesterday from spring break.  I’m feeling happy and energized after a few days in the sun in Tampa, Florida.    I love my visit to Tampa.  Here is a picture of Bayshore Blvd., South Tampa, on the sea-walled shore of the Hillsborough Bay.  It is bordered by the longest continuous sidewalk in the world, which provides residents with miles of trails for an energetic jog, walk, bike, or roller skate.

palmtrees

Today, I’m catching up to mail and getting ready for High Point Market.  Now that spring has officially arrived, I am excited to start spring cleaning and decorate with spring colors in blue, green, turquoise, yellow, and coral.

Hope you are having a great spring day!
