After two months of festivities (birthdays, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Eve), I am craving quiet time and relaxing neutral spaces. Winter white interiors are calming and cozy. The kitchen in the house we live in has white walls, white cabinets and wood floors. Our quaint old house has low ceilings which doesn’t allow me to hang anything over the kitchen island. But if I could, a chandelier would be in the running, like the one in this rustic and glamorous kitchen below. The mix of wood floors and wood beams make it earthy and comfortable; the lighting adds the wow factor. Designing is like a dance, you have to know which moves to make, or you might step on your partner’s toes. In good design, many steps are taken in the planning phase, before material selections and installation, to appreciate it in its entirety.
