SNOW ALREADY!

The forecast is snow here in Princeton, NJ.  I’m enjoying the view from my window.

There is nothing like snow to get in the holiday spirit.  The fireplace is on and I’m making pumpkin spice pancakes  from Dancing Deer Baking Co.– my find of the week at HomeGoods.

Pumpkins replaced the starfish on my table, orange velvet pillows are on the sofa — find beautiful velvet fabric in a variety of colors at www.decoratorsbest.com —  and my store bought roses look beautiful.

  Happy decorating.

  Enjoy the weekend.

Love  the cheetah print, pick up pillows or a throw with animal print pattern. Add a little for accent or spread various patterns around the room for continuity and interest. Cover your walls with pictures from top to bottom.  Shop garage sales, the salvation army for great prints.   If you find a great frame but don’t like the picture, take it out.  Use the frame alone.  You could insert a different picture, a large letter for your initial inserted in the middle is also great.

Add a wall of mirrors to a small space,  hot glue a  small medallion at the end of each mirror square. Bring a little sparkle  with a silver or gold garden stool.   Pair it with nickle floor lamps.

Add a little or a lot.  IT’S A CLASSIC LOOK.  Shop www.ballarddesigns.com for a zebra shape or square rug.

HomeGoods is a great store to get accessories at discounted prices.  Animal print pillows, cubes and benches  filled the end isles at HomeGoods in Princeton, NJ .

I’m loving Martyn  Lawrence Bullard’s fabric collection with Schumacher.   His prints have color and scale influenced by his travels around the world.  This luxurious fabric collection will transform any room.  Use them to inspire your next design  project.  Below are my picks.  Don’t forget to pick up his first personal book, Live, Love & Decorate.  Bullard received the prestigious Andrew Martin International Interior Designer of the Year Award in October 2010. He was also profiled in the January 2010 issue of Architectural Digest as one of the top Interior Designers in the world.   Follow him on reality TV on the Million Dollar Decorators on BravoTV.  See more of his amazing designs in the  September issue of House Beautiful.

Hampton Designer Showhouse

After several days of rain in the Northeast,  I made my escape to Long Island, NY at the next sunny forecast.   I was on a mission to get some sunshine and see and hear the ocean waves.  But before I could do so, I  had to stop at the designer showhouse in Bridgehampton.  The showhouse is presented by Traditional Home to benefit the Southhampton Hospital.   I was glad to support a great cause and have fun looking at the designers’ work.  The house was impeccably decorated. The designers did a fabulous job.   The tour volunteers were friendly and enjoyed answering questions.

Special thanks to Donald Schermerhorn, Designer.  His work  is featured at the showhouse.  His firm is Schermerhorn Interior Design in New York, New York.  Thank you for taking the time to chat with us and pose for a picture.  My attention was drawn to his gallery of wooden frames on the wall — unified squares of brush samples (you have to see it to appreciate it).  The frames bring texture and interest to his sleek, relaxing, colorful room.  It shows that simple ideas can make a big impact.   I also love the white, overhead fan.  The fan was modern and sexy.  I know, who finds a fan sexy.  To see more of his designs go to donaldschermerhorn.com.

The showhouse is  open daily Monday to Sunday–Sunday July 24 to September 4 –11AM to 5PM.  hamptondesignershowhouse.com .  Grab a friend and make it a weekend.  While you’re there head out to Hither Hills State Park in Montauk.   The beach is beautiful.   There are showers and a concession stand.   Make a stop in Amagansett, at Mary’s Marvelous –for some fresh muffins, cookies, and sandwiches.

For a late lunch or dinner stop at Bostwick (Zagat rated) bostwickschowderhouse.com, for fresh seafood in a casual setting.   There are great stores and antiques along Route 27 –so wear comfortable shoes.  Thanks Lauren for posing.

On my way home I stopped by for gas and met Tracey Tooker, as in Tracey Tooker hats.   Tracey’s hats have been worn by celebraties  Aretha Franklin, Bianca Jagger, Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg, Martha Stewart, Barbara Walters and Vera Wang to name a few.   We chatted about Florida and the Northeast before heading back in our cars.  To find out more about Tracey’s hats, visit traceytookerhats.com.

It was a wonderful trip.  Thanks a million Paul & Emily for your kind hospitality!
