HomeGoods Pick of the Week

 Happy Veterans Day!

It’s Friday, you know what that means.  It’s my HomeGoods Pick of the Week.

I picked up these salad/dessert plates for $3.99/each.  They’re microwave and dishwasher safe.  The glasses are also from HomeGoods $2.99 and  $2.00.   Sometimes finding the right tablecloth color is difficult and expensive.  Layer your table with a pretty scarf  instead.  They come in a rainbow of colors now.  The orange scarf is new from Greene Street Consignment in Princeton .  A quick table setting for champagne and chocolate cake with a few friends.

Decorating with Deer Antlers

Came across this fabric with deer antlers.  Would look great in a study — window treatments, pillows, seat cushion.    I recently picked up some deer antlers for a project and found a helpful video on how to mount them.  Search  www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8jWpG7EXUU, Co-Host Ralph Scherder.

Great chair to add to office.

ANTIQUES, COLLECTIBLES AND MORE

The Golden Nugget Antique Market

One of my secret places to find vintage and unique finds is The Golden Nugget Antique Market, located in Lambertville, NJ. Here you’ll find just about everything — furniture, paintings, jewelry, home decor, retro and vintage and a whole lot more. Visit their website for more details at www.gnmarket.com.  Wear comfortable shoes and pack a lunch.

Decorating Foyers in a Small Space

Looking for inspiration for a foyer?

 via House Beautiful

Like pink?   Feel happy walking into this foyer.

Damask is one of my favorite patterns.   I like this relaxed formal entry.

A more neutral combination.  Great dresser to put your keys and mail away as you come in the door.  A draw for hats,  gloves, scarfs……

Try the unexpected.  Use a round table.

It’s all in the details.  Beautiful molding, floor stencil, stair runner.  Remember to place one item under the table… ginger jar, basket, plant.

Freshen up your entryway with a great mirror and fresh flowers. Like the painted floors?  Painting your floors is an easy way to add another decorative element.  The half table works for a small space.  If your entryway is smaller, another alternative is a shelf with a decorative cornice, add a small vase with fresh flowers and a beautiful mirror.

Pine Cone Wreath – High/Low

Glittered Pine Cone Wreath

Came across this simple, beautiful pine cone wreath (ribbon not included) from Horchow, the cost $200.  While at the Home Depot, I found a similar pine cone wreath from Martha Stewart under $24.

Happy Monday!

HomeGoods Pick of the Week

My trip to HomeGoods never disappoints me.   This time I gravitated to the lighting section.  Perhaps, I was influenced by the fun colors in  John Loecke and Jason Oliver Nixon color-rich interiors in the Tastemaker Tag Sale on One Kings Lane last night.  Maybe it was because before moving to the Northeast, I lived in Tampa, FL for two years.  As the cold weather sets in,  I’m wishing for summer temperatures and the bright rich colors it brings.  This week I am showing a few lamps, instead of just one item.   I hope it inspires you to bring some fun, cheerful colors into your home, especially those of us in living in cold climates.

Transform A Room With Stencils

mural stencils, pic via Cutting Edge Stencils

Creating beautiful rooms with simple wall stencils is easier than you think. Stencils have come a long way.  I’ve never tried stenciling until now.  I absolutely love it!   Before

It was easy, cost effective (it’s reusable) and the results are amazing.   I decided to use  it on an accent wall in a powder room.   I selected the Diamond Damask pattern available at Cutting Edge Stencils.  The product came  with easy to follow step-by-step  instructions.  Leveling the stencil was effortless with their clip-on level.   I was able to align the pattern and check my progress without losing time.  You can review this and other beautiful stencils at www.cuttingedgestencils.com.  What I like most about stenciling is that I don’t have to commit to the pattern, unlike wall paper.  It’s easy to update any decor with a can of paint and a stencil.   Get amazing results with little cost.
