Glad To Be Back

Glad to be back after Hurricane Sandy.  We are fine at home.  Our electric power came back last night.  There are many people less fortunate that are in great need of donations.  Please contact local agencies in your area to contribute to families affected by Hurricane Sandy.

On my visit to HomeGoods to pick up towels for donations , I found some inspiration, too.

Thank you for stopping by.

Holiday House NYC

Mark your calendars and visit the  Holiday House, a holiday-themed Designer Showhouse, in a historic 20,000+ square foot mansion presented by Traditional Home.  The Holiday House is located at 2 East 63rd Street in New York City.  It is open to the public from October 25 – November 18, 2012.

This year, the Holiday House benefits The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, founded by Evelyn Lauder in 1993.  Many women and families have been touched by breast cancer, my family included.  Let’s celebrate life and  support the foundation to help accelerate new discoveries and advances to fight breast cancer.  The foundation is a pioneer in dramatically improving diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of breast cancer to help women globally.   I am honored to be part of the media attending the showhouse and to share the amazing designs of some of the best talent in the design industry.

Paula + Martha designed the grand entrance hall for the Lauder Tribute Gallery. The portrait of Mrs. Lauder  shows her signature style of refinement and elegance.  Lauder’s  photographs from her collection of antique “lady head” vases, “The Beauties,”  and colorful flowers are also displayed in the salon-style vignette.

I’m always excited to see Tobi Fairley’s next design.  The theme of Tobi’s room is “Spring Forward”  with  a “fashion forward” reference.  The sitting room is designed in black and white with touches of  pink.   Upon entering the room, it feels like light and airy:  fresh, crisp and beautiful down to every detail.

Catching Up

Good morning.  Sorry for the lack of post last week.  I  took a little road trip to North Carolina for High Point Market.   Imagine a town just for designers, buyers and people in the industry.  There was so much to see.   I will need many more visits to explore just a fraction of the showrooms. The showrooms I did visit were full of great furniture and beautiful accessories.  The highlight of my trip was attending the C.R. Laine showroom.

C.R. Laine was gracious and hosted a cocktail party for the Olioboard and High Point Market “Style Spotter” finalist.   Here we are 11 of the 15 finalist. I enjoyed meeting  Lisa Mende,  the winner of the Olio Board competition.  It was wonderful to see Leslie Carothers, as wells as, many amazing bloggers and designers.  Thank you, Leslie for sharing your wonderful pictures.

Thank you, Cheminne Taylor-Smith, Holly Blalock, C.R. Laine,  and Currey & Co. for  putting together a wonderful party. Please follow the 9 High Point Market Style Spotters Boards on Pinterest and see their picks.

Have a wonderful Monday!

The B.K.F. Chair

The B.K.F. Chair  named after its three designers, Antonio Bonet, Juan Kurchan and Jorge Ferrari Hardoy, is also known as the Hardoy Chair, Butterfly Chair, Safari Chair, Sling Chair, or Wing Chair.   The lightweight and inexpensive lounge chair is popular.  Recently, a vintage chair came up at auction locally.  It was hard not to make a bid on this  beauty.  Some how I managed to look away.  A lucky buyer took it home.  The winning bid was $200.   It was a steal.  I was happy for them.  If you love it,  CB2 is carrying the iconic butterfly design.

Chair Scouting

Are you looking for a great chair to add to your decor?  These are sure to wow you and your guest.  I would use any of these in a heart beat.  They are all beautiful.  Just remember to mix your style.  Add a modern chair  to your traditional room.  Update a traditional chair by upholstering it in a modern fabric or add a pillow in a bright color.  Try something different.  Decorating should be fun.
