Biking In Style

On a trip to Amsterdam, a few years back, I was inspired by the life style.  Moms with kids, older women, and men all biking, along the beautiful narrow streets and canals, on their way to school and work.

Many people bike to school and work in my neighborhood.  I admire the women who put on their heels  and cruise by me, or better yet, the women riding with two kids in tow.   There are also the  famous faces who remind me of the elegance of riding a bike.

Bathroom Bliss: Get The Look

Gracie hand-painted wallpaper transforms any room into a luxurious space.   I LOVE everything about this bathroom.    Lucite sink legs and a modern light fixture bring balance to the bathroom with traditional tiles in a herringbone pattern, mixing the traditional and modern into perfection.

Rocks that Rock

If you are heading to the beach or taking a long walk in the woods this weekend, you are sure to find pretty rocks for these family fun craft projects with rocks.   Get the kids to help.  Kids enjoy collecting things.  Make it a competition, but make it clear each has to carry what they collect, or you’ll be hauling all the rocks.

Pebble Table Number

There is beauty is this simple table setting.  A budget friendly idea for a party.

Wire Picture Holders that Rock

Wire picture rock holders:  I think this one is my favorite.  Use it as a photo holder, place card holder,  or note holder.

  rock garden markers

Garden markers: kids will have a great time painting these rock garden makers.  Happy crafting.  Enjoy your weekend.

Decorating the Fireplace for Summer

We have been living in this house for three years.  It’s a charming house (too small of us) with some cute details: wide plank floors, original windows (it’s cold in the winter),  checkered floors in the mudroom, a swing door that connects the kitchen and study.  I like this house most during the summer.   It takes time to make a house a home.   I spent a little time updating the fireplace area, which was in need of a spruce up for summer.

I unpacked some moving boxes and found a few fern frames I used in our previous house.  Don’t you just love shopping your home?  Summer is all about the beach.   Sea shells, new and old, were placed in a French porcelain basket.   A natural fern was added to the inside of the brick fireplace.  It was a great deal at $10 at Home Depot.  (Look #1)

A chair and a leopard print pillow complete the space.   Of course, once I started moving things around, I kept going.   Here’s  look #2.  The birds are a gift from a dear friend.  I love my Bunny Williams Home pillow.  The cane chair I bought at auction.  The rug is from One Kings Lane.  Eventually, I would like replace the mirror and the lighting in this room.

The boys bedroom also has a fireplace and needed some TLC.  Now that they are college boys, I kept it simple, and a little more age appropriate.

It’s a non-working fireplace.  The tortoise shell is from Nate Berkus’ Target Collection.   Tortoise shells remind me of my childhood.  Lastly, the dining room fireplace could use a little change for summer.  I  have a few more boxes to open.  Maybe I’ll find more forgotten treasures to decorate the dining room fireplace for Summer.

Thanks for stopping by.

Happy Monday 7/22/13

Happy Monday.  How have you been dealing with the hot weather?  Living in Tampa a few years ago, I learned to do outdoor activities early  (between 5 – 7 am or after 6:00pm).    Last week, during the day, I spent time indoors purging and organizing the kids’ bedrooms.  (No posting last week due to computer crash and a shoulder  injury — I’m okay now.)   In the late afternoons,  I made trips to the garden center to be around plants, flowers and garden essentials for inspiration.   This week’s forecast is in the mid 80s.  It’s little relief, but I’ll take it.

Enjoy your day and find time to be around  the people you love and do a least one thing that brings you joy.
