7 Decorating Tips From My One Room Challenge Office Makeover

A week later, I’m loving my new designed home office.  Thank you Linda at Calling It Home for hosting the One Room Challenge.  Today I’m sharing a few decorating tips from my project.

1.  Buy what you love.  The moment I decided to join the One Room Challenge group, I knew my biggest hurdle was budget, not time. My husband reminds me, I have champagne taste on a beer budget.   This only motivates me more to hunt for that special piece at a fraction of the price.  Buying vintage is in.  Vintage pieces and consignment stores are cost-saving resources. Think out of the box.  I turned a gorgeous vintage hand-painted tortoise server into office storage furniture.

2.  Layers of old and new pieces in a room feel most comfortable to me, as well as, mixing high and low.   Shortly after I started my blog, I became a contributing blogger for HomeGoods.  A visit to HomeGoods is a weekly routine.  Don’t let others deter you.  I find the most amazing deals and designer products.   Visit the HomeGoods in the more affluent areas for a wider selection.  White ginger jar,  storage boxes and office supplies are chic office essentials and affordable at HomeGoods.

3.  Good design takes time; stay flexible.  I mentioned in the One Room Challenge reveal the windows treatments would wait.  It doesn’t benefit me to rush and look at window treatments that give me anxiety.  In the long run, I’ll save time, energy and money.

4.  Are high-end products a luxury worth the price?  The Bunglow5 desk in my office is beautiful!  From the hardware to the inside of the draw, it shows every little detail was carefully crafted.  The desk is center stage to the design.

5.  Vintage and antique rugs are an investment. The process of selecting an area rug for a project is easier when working with high-quality rug dealer, Doris Leslie Blau, offering superb service.  Prospective clients are given the opportunity to sample the area rug in their space prior to purchasing.

6.  Nothing happens by itself.  Call in help (the electrician, the painter, the movers).  It takes a team to make it happen.

7.  Go bold.  Paint is your friend.  Nancy’s Blushes paint by Farrow and Ball on the walls gives my small space a punch of happy.   In the evening, the paint and vintage lamp cast a soft glow that makes me want to work longer just so I can enjoy my office space a little longer.

Thanks for stopping by.
